Healthy Schools Day was officially on April 3, 2018 and all week long. Hosted by Canadian Partnership for Children’s Health and Environment (CPCHE), this years focus is on radon — a radioactive gas that is the #1 cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
So what is radon? And how come I have never heard of it before?
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from rock and soil. It can enter schools, homes and other buildings and build up to harmful levels. Science has discovered that Canada has some highest rates of radon in the world because of it’s geological make-up.
CPCHE has created an online campaign calling on governments across Canada to ensure students and staff in schools and child care environments are protected from this well-known and preventable cancer risk.
Petition to Rule Out Radon is still open. Add your voice as Canadian’s speak out for the right to be safe at school.
